Analytical methods

Question orientated analyses are the key for success.

  • Microscopy of samples collected with the Sigma-2 passive sampler
  • Light microscopy for the determination of morphological parameters of single particles >2.5 µm in diameter
  • Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) for the determination of morphological parameters of single particles >20 nm in diameter
  • Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) for the determination of the chemical composition of particles < 100 nm in diameter
  • Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) for the determination of the chemical composition of single particles
  • X-ray diffraction for the determination of the mineralogy of the total dust (bulk sample)
  • X-ray fluorescence for the determination of the chemical composition of the total dust (bulk sample)

We offer further numerous systematic analyses in cooperation with our partners.

Single particle analysis is a general term for analytical methods that deal with the analysis of single dust particles and not total dust.

The advantage of these methods is that chemical and morphological criteria can be combined. And the information obtained for each single particle contributes to the characterization of the total dust.

Single particle analysis at Particle Vision

Particle Vision GmbH offer scanning electron microscopy (SEM) single particle analyses including data treatment and interpretations. This combined with the numerous sampling methods that we have at our disposal enable complex questions related to nano- and micro-scale particles to be addressed and answered.

Single particle analysis – our offer

  • Qualitative overview analysis with the scanning electron microscope
  • Quantitative analysis with the scanning electron microscope
  • Quantitative morphological fractal analysis
  • Qualitative analysis with the transmission electron microscope

Analysis of asbestos and other fibrous inorganic particles according to VDI 3492

The SEM/EDS analysis at Particle Vision are performed by specialists (geologists). Our specialists have a broad knowledge which is not only restricted to asbestos including other complex environmental fields.
